UNITEL Pictures’ “Crying Ladies,” starring Sharon Cuneta and directed by Mark Meily, has been chosen as the Philippine entry to the Oscars’ best foreign language film category next year.
So far, no Philippine film has made it to the finals in the Oscar best foreign language film category. The Court of Appeals affirmed the decision of Quezon City RTC declaring ABS-CBN as “guilty of copyright infringement for the unauthorized use of a GMA Network exclusive video in 1995.”
According to the CA ruling, ABS-CBN did not ask permission from GMA 7 to use the exclusive interview of the latter with Vivialyn Dungca.
The footage was first shown on Eye to Eye last Oct. 12, 1995. That evening, the defendant aired the same footage on TV Patrol. A red bar was superimposed to cover the words “Eye to Eye Exclusive.”
