Hindi pa ako sigurado kung nakuha na ni John Lapus ang premyo niya sa Pilipinas, Game KNB? Nanalo nga ng P1M si John, at muntik pa nga na ‘yun ang maging dahilan para tuluyang tuldukan nila ni Kris Aquino ang kanilang friendship, na mabuti naman ay naayos din agad.
Pero, ang tanong, gaano kaya katotoo na hindi naman buong makukuha ni John ang premyo niya? Na aabot lang sa P800,000.00 ang makukuha niya kung saka-sakali dahil sa ibinawas na tax?

‘StarStruck’ ng GMA 7, tunay na newsmaker sa 2004!

THIS has been an open secret since a month after the May 2004 elections.
It seems that the nation, especially its televiewers, expects media to be fair, impartial and faction-less: “Walang kinikilingan, walang pinuprotektahan.”
Now, even stars and members of the ABS-CBN, admits that GMA 7 is “No. 1, meaning it has topped the ratings with its news, public affairs and other shows.”
Even Kris Aquino said this on the air, on GMA 7 – in a Startalk interview at that. GMA getting its advantage later in the year is a top news to most.
It was most noticeable that it was the news and public affairs shows of GMA 7 which got better ratings first right after the May 2004 elections.
TV observers still insists that credibility and political non-alignment have something to do with this. And slowly other shows – especially Mulawin, Daisy Siete and soap series followed suit.
Now, Maalaala Mo Kaya – in spite of better stories, well-crafted and better-directed episodes, better camera works – seems to be getting a beating too by GMA’s Magpakailanman. Excellence it seems has nothing to do with this.
To illustrate, the GMA 7 coverage of necrological services, requiem mass and funeral march was inferior to the high-quality of shots and excellent camera works of the coverage of ABS-CBN (wow, with split frames and camera rhythm due to more imaginative personnel), yet the ratings of GMA, 20% to ABS-CBN, 15.3% tell a sad story. ABS must do something about its image seemingly tarnished, according to political analysts by the last elections.
This long-drawn network war which affects the networks’ image and policies, current hiring of personnel and expertise is to us one of the top news of 2004.

Isang magandang balita na sa pagpasok ng Bagong Taon ay mapapanood na ang mga palabas ng GMA 7 sa Amerika. Ngayon pa lang ay marami ng kababayan nating Pinoy ang natutuwa dahil matutupad na ang kanilang kahilingan na makita ang show ng Kapuso Network.
Syempre isa na rito ang ating show na Master Showman Presents… Walang Tulugan. Kahit ba hatinggabi na ang pagpapalabas ng show natin sa bansa pero, mapapanood naman ito ng mga kababayan natin sa States sa umaga.

marina was not intended to run for just a season (13 weeks or a little over three months) coz it ran from march to october (six months) but unfortunately mulawin came in,and with marina’s dipping performance paired with it’s big budget cost, it had to end too quickly.

To GMA 7 management be humble enough! Stop wearing your no.1 I.D. I really don’t care about the ratings na lagi nyong pinagmamalaki.Wala naman sa numero yan eh. What is important is kung paano nyo nakuha ang isang bagay. hindi yung maninira kayo para makaungos lang. Sincerity at being honest yun ang importante.
GMA 7 was found liable for copyright infringement of ABS-CBN’s Angelo de la Cruz news footage, which GMA 7 aired during the latter’s coverage of De la Cruz’s arrival from the Middle East last July 22, 2004.
In a resolution dated December 3, 2004, issued by Quezon City Assistant Prosecutor Dindo G. Venturanza, GMA 7 officials Grace de la Peña-Reyes and John Oliver Manalastas were found to have committed the copyright infringement.
They were charged of violation of Sec. 177 and Sec. 211 of Republic Act 8293, otherwise known as Intellectual Property Code. Reyes is the head of news operations and Manalastas is program manager of GMA 7.
The resolution stated that ABS-CBN holds the exclusive ownership and copyright of the Angelo de la Cruz news footage. Hence, any airing and re-broadcast of the said footage without any consent or authority from ABS-CBN will be held as an infringement and violation of intellectual property rights of the latter.
Venturanza pointed out that Reyes and Manalastas cannot escape liability since the news control room was under their direct control and supervision.

umm… I’m not sure if you’ve noticed this… the commercials in GMA is verrrrrrrrrry long. i know we need commercials to produce quality shows like Mulawin, Extra Challenge, etc. but the commercials are so long and the gap between commercial breaks are short. consequently, we have shorter viewing time, and the bulk is full of commercials… i really like watching mulawin, 24 oras, but it’s somewhat irritating to view commercials over and over again and at the same time the substance/content of the show is deteriorating… i hope they would somewhat lessen the time of their commercial breaks…

I am sure that ABS and GMA are laughing their hearts out while reading the comments of their fans. I really realized how powerful media is in influencing the minds and hearts of the people. Imagine, ordinary (and maybe even the “extraordinary”) people are fighting over the leadership of the two biggest stations in the country! GMA is very happy now that they have achieved their most coveted goal - being NO.1! Congrats! You really deserve not only a tap at the back but a big round’a applause for all your hardowork. It’s true, ang mundo ay bilog. Ganun naman talaga. When you’re below, you can only choose to either be on top or to go lower. Thank you for choosing to be on top, you worked hard and you’ve helped the economy of our country. We have to also congratulate ABS-CBN because it’s so difficult to be on top and they remained to be there for decades. When you’re on top, you only have two ways as well - to stay there, or to step down. Ganun talaga ang buhay. But nothing’s permanent in this world. Things change very fast. You wouldnt know it, when you wake up one morning, it’s gonna be ABC 5 which will top all the stations. “Iba tayo” na ang sigaw ng tao - hindi na kapamilya o kapuso. I just feel really sad and bad because i’ve seen how people were changed by the network wars. Read on your comments and face the mirror. Ask yourselves what have changed. These stations changed you totally - not for the better but for the worse! Sige nga, kung GMA na ang no. 1 or ABS pa rin, ano bang nagbago? May nagbago ba sa buhay natin? I think that’s every filipino’s trait. Pulling down each other. Although i am happy with the success of GMA (they really have good shows), i am saddened by the way some people inside acted on their success. I dont like Joey’s patutsada to some personalities of ABS-CBN. Calling them “matatanda na ang nasa ASAP!” was terribly foul. He has to remember that he also is old already. Every station’s goal is to be on top. But the celebrities are not the stations. They are mere workers. Wag na sanang mang-away. Ganun din tayo dito. Wala na sanang away. Hindi kasi maganda. What’s my point? We all want entertainment. We watch movies, tv shows, listen to radios, because we want to be entertained. But please, wag tayong pumayag na paikutin ng mga stations na ito sa kanilang mga palad. As i said, let’s leave the “war” between them. Let’s us thank that little square box called television for all the laughter and tears. It helped us reflect on our lives. it made us all feel better in low or high times. Thank you TV! critics… Why is GMA 7 celebrating their 53rd year with a bigger
bang
than their 50th year 3 years ago??? Is the network really
desperate to dislodge its rival network, ABS-CBN 2, from the top spot
by doing this? ABS-CBN is now celebrating its 50th year as well as
the
50th year of Philippine television. Avid viewers of GMA 7 claim that
GMA 7 started Philippine TV which is absolutely FICTIONAL. It is
stated in the record books that DZAQ made the first broadcast in
Philippine TV which eventually became ABS-CBN 2.
GMA 7 and its fanatic viewers also claim that their shows are doing
well in the ratings which is also UNTRUE. The TRUTH is that ABS-CBN
shows has been consistently doing well in the ratings game getting
almost all of the top 20 spots in the AGB ratings survey.
Hosts of GMA 7 programs,as well as GMA 7 fans, also claim that ABS-
CBN
is a copycat because of allegedly “copying their shows.” This claim,
however, is also untrue because ABS-CBN has produced programs that
has
set the trends in Philippine TV. Examples of this would include
Alas Singko y Medya, Teysi ng Tahanan, Sineskwela,
TV Patrol, Maalaala Mo Kaya, ASAP, GAME KNB,
Balitang K, Tabing Ilog, Klasmeyts, Showbiz Lingo,
innovative Teleseryes and other shows that has set the
trends and fashion in the Philippine TV scene.

ABS-CBN in Canada in 2005

ABS-CBN Global Ltd. of the Lopez group has been given the go-signal to do business in Canada starting second quarter of next year.
ABS-CBN Global Ltd. is the international unit of ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp. which also operates Channel 2 and the ANC.
The broadcasting giant’s chairman Eugenio Lopez III said ABS-CBN Global used to enter into partnerships with a Canadian cable operator before it could offer ABS-CBN programs to the 200,000 Filipinos living in Canada.
“Canada used to be a gray market but the Supreme Court in Canada had recently ruled that we can operate there without forging into an agreement with a third party. Now, we can operate there by ourselves. With the new ruling by the Canadian SC, we can now distribute there. In the old ruling, we don’t exist there,” said Lopez.
Kai Rodriguez, chief finance officer of ABS-CBN Global, said it was difficult to assess at this time if the 200,000 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) in Canada will subscribe to the service.
“The characteristics of the Canadian and Australian markets are similar, but it’s very hard to predict how many subscribers we’ll have there. The study is still ongoing. The Hong Kong market is where we want to enter into. We made an attempt there before, but the level of disposable income of OFWs there is lower compared in Canada where the migrants are not domestic helpers and caregivers,” Rodriguez said.
ABS-CBN Global, she added, wants its presence to be felt all over the region. “We’re still looking at the Asian expansion. We are also checking Singapore. We have a partnership in Japan. We are also in Saipan and other US territories in the Asia-Pacific. What we want is to infiltrate other markets like Taipei, Malaysia and Indonesia. All these are being explored for next year’s expansion,” Rodriguez said.
Currently, ABS-CBN’s international operation accounts for 30 percent of its total revenues, although the broadcast firm expects it to grow significantly in the next three years.
ABS-CBN Global is currently offering four channels—The Filipino Channel (TFC), ABS-CBN News Channel, Cinema One, and Pinoy Central—and two radio channels. The company expects to increase the number of their programs to six.
TFC is currently viewed in North America, Australia, Europe, Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Indonesia, Japan, Cambodia, American Samoa, the Gulf States and Saudi Arabia.
Last year, ABS-CBN Global posted revenues of P1.91 billion, up 36.3 percent over the previous P1.40 billion.
The revenue growth can also be attributed to the consolidation of ABS-CBN Middle East, whose revenue in prior years was treated as pre-operating.
