Maria Ressa has accepted the offer to become ABS-CBN’s news consultant.
The opportunity to work with ABS-CBN, one of the country’s top networks, could not have come at a better time. The pervasive influence of ABS-CBN and its multiple platforms—radio, Channel 2, cable, Studio 23, Pinoy Central, and global operations via The Filipino Channel spell out a strong potential for the transformation of Philippine society.
Ressa will formally join ABS-CBN this January as news consultant who will be charged with training and evaluating news personnel. She will also be taking a hard look at systems and information flow in the news group.
“I’d like to influence the organization from the ground up…to help the people who pull the daily load to do it better and more efficiently,” Ressa says. “News begins with clarity of thought and focus: that will guide your choice of story, your analysis, your packaging, even your delivery. You must be very clear about the bigger picture.”
Will this translate to ratings? “I believe it will, in the long run, because the search for excellence always makes good business sense. That is how we can compete not just domestically but in the region and the world.”
Long-timers in the organization who have seen an all-too-frequent changing of the guards in the past year or so are either apprehensive or cynical about impending changes—especially since the network has had a strong crime and entertainment bent, and of late, has had some of its reporters even become part of the news.
A perceptible difference in the way news is delivered and broadcast on ABS-CBN should be seen in a month’s time, according to Ressa, but the retooling and changing of mindsets can take much longer. [source]

all i can say is that, NOONG ABS-CBN ang NUMBER 1 sa “MEGA-MANILA”, they are NOT POSTING TV RATINGS in a “DAILY BASIS!”, these means that ABS is humble enough na sa PUSO ng mga PILIPINO, NUMBER 1 sila, no need to POST RATINGS, SABI NGA NG ABS-CBN: “KAPAMILYA, IKAW ANG NUMBER 1″
NOW, that the ratings are on favor to GMA, ABS is performing a revamp on their shows (IN WHICH ANG GMA-7, EVERSINCE EH REVAMP NG REVAMP)… they (ABS) are doing this to satisfy the needs and wants of the FILIPINOs and not just for the sake of RATINGS… in a way, OO kailangan mag-rate ang isang show para naman ma-compensate ang pagod at hirap ng mga talents, directors, staff, etc… pero ilang shows ba ngayong ng ABS and hindi masyado nag-rate pero anjan pa rin? kasi they are QUALITY programs and not just RATING STEALERS… like Y-Speak, even DepEd recommended this show… this is a very good example na kapag may QUALITY yung show, regardless of the ratings, tuloy pa rin… that’s TRUE SERVICE to the FILIPINO…
mga KAPAMILYA, don’t mind GMA supporters who blog here and post their comments… let’s just wait and see in the following months, ABS will “AGAIN” reign in PHILIPPINE TV… we all know that ABS is STILL the REIGNING NUMBER 1 TV STATION ON a “NATIONWIDE” basis, pero “MEGA-MANILA” matters… advertisers are looking at the ratings in MEGA-MANILA and not in the entire ARCHIPELAGO… in the meantime, PABAYAAN na natin sila maging NUMBER 1, anyways SANDALI lang naman yan… BABALIK RIN SATEN ANG TRONO SA “MEGA-MANILA”
