Precious Lara Quigaman
Precious Lara Quigaman is the fourth Filipino to bring home the Miss International crown. The other three are Melanie Marquez (1979), Aurora Pijuan (1970) and Gemma Cruz (1965).
Her introductory speech:
MABUHAY! representing the democratic and freedom loving people of the pearl of the orient, I am Precious Lara Quigaman, from the beautiful country of THE PHILIPPINES!
The question they asked her:
Q: “what do you say to the people of the world who have typecasted filipinos as nannies?”
A: “I take no offence on being typecasted as a nanny. But I do take offence that the educated people of the world have somehow denegrated the true sense and meaning of what a nanny is. Let me tell you what she is. She is someone who gives more than she takes. She is someone you trust to look after the very people most precious to you – your child, the elderly, yourself. She is the one who has made a living out of caring and loving other people. So to those who have typecasted us as nannies, thank you. It is a testament to the loving and caring culture of the Filipino people. and for that, I am forever proud and grateful of my roots and culture.”
Loud applause ensued.
Lara wants Dennis Trillo to be his first leading man in a movie project.

Your favorite song is Gospel Music…. You call on God yet you have a relationship with a married man. You deny from his daughter much “precious” time as you take him all to yourself. While you have a grand time with his money and supposed love, you hurt his wife, daughter and more importantly God. You spread rumors that he is not married. Blinded by what? His money? Yes Ms. Precious Lara Quigaman, this comment is for you. It is sad that you put up a “goody-goody front” when immorality covers your soul. I am not a friend to any of your boyfriend’s family members, but my kids go to SPCP too. I just feel that people who pretend to be good but are really dirty need to be exposed. . . Not because of who you are Lara, but because of the pain you have caused his family
